Medevac Off Coast of New Jersey

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 30, 2006

The Coast Guard medevaced a man 60 miles off the coast of Atlantic City, N.J. At 6:44 a.m. the Coast Guard received a call for help from a crewmember of the M/V Acacia, a 536-ft. RoRo vessel, which was destined for Philadelphia. The crewmember was concerned that one of his shipmates, Joce Topacio, 56, may have suffered a stroke. A rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was deployed to the scene. With heavy fog and a visibility of only 40-feet, the crew of the Coast Guard helicopter was able to hoist Topacio to the helicopter and fly him to Atlantic City Trauma where he was released to awaiting emergency personnel.
Trite but true, the path to decarbonization has no ‘silver bullet’ solution.
