IRClass Acquires Geological and Metallurgical Laboratories

Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), the leading international classification society, has acquired Geological and Metallurgical Laboratories (GML), a leading India-based industrial testing and standards setting company, through IRClass Systems and Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

Bangalore-based GML is a specialist, multi-discipline testing laboratory focused on chemical, mechanical, metallurgical, civil, environmental testing, calibration, failure analysis and geological investigations, product-oriented tests for complete characterisation, as well as assisting industries in establishing laboratories and training personnel.

“This is an important acquisition by IRClass,” said Mr. Arun Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of IRClass, “enabling us to capitalise on the good market reputation of GML for reliable, high-quality testing.

“The top-line of IRClass’ business will be enhanced with the acquisition of these activities. IRClass, with its technical strengths and national and international presence, will help scale up this line of business significantly,” he added.

GML’s customers include automotive, manufacturing, electronics and electrical names such as NPCL, Bosch, RITES, Roots, Sundaram Groups, Suppliers of BHEL, Nuclear Power Corporation India Ltd., DGAQA, etc.

GML was set up in 1980 and has approval from the Directorate General of Aircraft Quality Assurance (DGAQA), accreditation from NABL,

approvals from NPCIL, RITES, Naval Inspectorate, and other inspecting agencies and multi-nationals.

The acquisition of GML by IRClass follows another recent successful acquisition, that of Safess Quality Management, which deals with the inspection of cryogenic vessels.
