Northrop Grumman Corporation was awarded a $95.8m contract for the detail design of the U.S. Navy's 21st century DDG 1000 destroyer. The contract, to be performed by the company's Ship Systems sector, includes the detail design and the procurement of any vendor-furnished information that will be used in support of the design. The contract runs through September 2007; when fully funded, the contract will total more than $300m through 2013. The ship's mission is to provide affordable, credible, independent forward presence/deterrence and to operate as an integral part of naval, joint or combined maritime forces. DDG 1000 will provide advanced land attack capability in support of ground campaigns and will contribute naval, joint or combined battlespace dominance in littoral operations. Work will be performed at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems' Pascagoula and Gulfport facilities.
