1791-Secretary of Treasury Hamilton fixed value of rations at a "generous" 12 cents per day for each man in Revenue Marine. 

1973-The "Largest Icebreaker in the Western World," CGC Polar Star, was launched.

1983- LT Edith Munro, USCGR, Douglas Munro's mother and SPAR veteran, passed away at the age of 88
