NEVA Opens in St. Petersburg

The Neva-2005 International Shipping, Shipbuilding, Ports and Offshore Energy Exhibition opened in St. Petersburg on Monday. It is held for the eighth time under the auspices of the Maritime Board under the Russian government and under the patronage of the city’s Maritime Assembly.

The exhibition organisers have attracted over 500 companies from 40 countries to participate in the event. A number of countries, including Russia will display their national expositions and industry groups.

Among the exponents are European associations of shipbuilding plants, sea equipment, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and US Coast Guard, Association of Independent Tanker Owners (INTERTANKO), International Association of Ports and Harbours and the HELMEPA environment protection association of the Union of Greek Shipowners.

Neva-2005 is a major civil maritime exhibition. Its exposition shows the latest achievements in the sphere of sea equipment, sea and offshore development equipment, construction and reconstruction of seaports, safety of navigation and many other spheres.

The international conference “Sea Industry and Shipping, Problems and Prospects” will be held within the framework of the exhibition. Its participants will discuss problems related to the development of civil shipbuilding and issues related to the transportation of equipment for offshore recovery of oil and natural gas and cooperation of ports and ship owners. It is also planned to hold an all-Russian forum titled “Technological and Personnel Support of the Shipbuilding Sector.”

A specialised section at the exhibition is devoted to the history, state of and prospects for the development of navigation and oceanography in the 21st century within the framework of the preparation for the celebration of the 180th anniversary of the Hydrographical Service of the Russian Fleet.
