The Philippine Coast Guard said that the sailors were on board the yacht "Tipsy Frenz"  competing in a sailing race from Hong Kong to Taiwan when it sank

A passing Hong Kong cargo ship "Easy Success" which was on its way to the Philippines, rescued the survivors.

The PCG said that its vessel BRP Nueva Vizcaya will meet the cargo vessel at the entrance of South Harbor in Manila and will bring the sailors  to its headquarters.

It is not known whether any of the rescued persons was injured, nor what caused the yacht to sink
