ACL Profit Grows

According to reports, American Commercial Lines Inc.'s third-quarter net income rose to $28.4 million, or 90 cents per share, from $3.5 million, or 15 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue rose to $266.6 million from $167.3 million. Revenue from the transportation segment rose to $212 million from $145 million a year earlier, driven by increases in volume and pricing. Revenue from the manufacturing segment rose to $54 million from $22 million on increased external builds and higher production levels. For the first nine months of the year, net income rose to $57.3 million, or $1.83 per share, from $3.2 million, or 14 cents per share, during the same period last year.
