June 16, 2011

The Grand Port Maritime du Havre and partners officially launched the RORO MAX project on June 10th. This cooperative quality progress approach aims at increasing the competitiveness and development of the trades at the Ro-Ro terminal. An ambition: making Le Havre the reference port for automotive trades.

This initiative is the fruit of a synergy between Stevedores, logisticians, yard operators, laboratories and engineering schools. "In Le Havre, we have federated all actors around this project with a three-fold objective: developing trades in order to reach 500,000 new vehicles in 2015, being recognized as a reference port in Europe, developing services and added value to attract new customers," Laurent Castaing, Chairman of the GPMH Management Board, stated.

The project plans the setting-up of new infrastructures to provide a surface of 100 hectares for the whole terminal. As regards operation and organisation, the administrative and customs processes will be simplified and standardized. RORO MAX will thus enable the creation of a new range of services grouping together efficiency (new value-added services, development of intermodalism and the river Seine Artery) and ergonomics owing to the contribution of new technologies.

In-depth thought and trials will be impulsed by four working groups steered by the CRITT until end of 2012. Aurélien Bertelle, Project Manager for the CRITT T&L, mentioned their missions. The first ‘work package’ will directly work on site in order to better meet the management of physical flows while the second one will analyse the information management and the way of optimizing it. The third group will have the purpose of developing the strategy of logistics offer and automotive supply chain. Finally, the last one will see to it to the continuous improvement of the project in order to widespread the best practices coming from the returns of experience.
