U.S. Navy Proposes Five Year Charter of Fleet Salvage Tug

The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is planning to lease/(bareboat charter) fleet salvage tug USNS Narragansett (T-ATF 167) to a U.S. company that can show it will use Narragansett to support offshore salvage facilities. The vessel will be leased on an "As Is, Where Is" basis. The 226 ft., 7,200 hp Narragansett is currently in classification with ABS, is under continuous survey, and has a Certificate of Inspection (COI) issued by the USCG. The successful lessee must acquire and maintain its own current and updated ABS class certifications, USCG certificate of inspection, adequate insurance, and demonstrate that it can adequately maintain and operate the vessel over the a proposed five year lease period. The vessel will be in use by the U.S. Navy through July 1999 after which a maintenance period is planned on the west coast in the August 1999 to September 1999 time-frame where potential lessee visitation and inspection could occur. The proposed lease award is currently anticipated for late FY 1999 or early FY 2000. Vessel inspection information including scheduling and availability to prospective offerors will be outlined in the upcoming solicitation planned for release in mid July 1999.
