NES Win New Jackup Rig Propulsion Contract
Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) is to supply Gulf Marine Services’ latest E-Class vessel 'GMS Enterprise' with a new state-of-the-art diesel electric propulsion system. Details are explained by Paul Winson, Vice President Sales at NES.
Gulf Marine Services (GMS) is the largest provider of self-propelled self-elevating jackup barges in the world. The rigs are highly versatile and support the offshore oil and gas industry as well as the offshore wind industry. The vessel will be outfitted at GMS’ own yard in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
GMS Enterprise will operate using the world leading Quadro Drive® VFD. Included with the switchboards is NES’ Black Out Safety System (B.O.S.S.®) and to ensure complete operating peace of mind NES has also included its Remote Operating System (R.A.S.®), which will enable NES to support GMS with technical help and assistance where ever the vessel might be operating in the world.
NES will also be responsible for all the electrical engineering, system integration and project leading on the vessel. NES will also be responsible for delivering and integrating the vessel’s automation system (IAS).
“To increase our presence in the self propelled jack-up market is testament to the quality and flexibility of our diesel electric solutions. These vessels have very special requirements and operate in very harsh conditions. They are expected to jack-up and down safely in very demanding conditions and to be trusted with supplying the power to keep these vessels stationary, during these operations, is a challenge we are confident to accept. We would like to thank GMS for putting it`s faith in NES and giving us the opportunity to deliver a world class product it will be proud of”, says Paul Winson, Vice President Sales at NES.
