IADC Recognizes GL Noble Denton Expert
The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) has recognized Mike Hoyle, one of GL Noble Denton's leading technical authorities for offshore oil and gas structures, for his contribution to new ISO Standards for the site-specific assessment of mobile offshore units.
The IDAC Committee presented its Exemplary Service Award to Mr Hoyle in recognition of his role as leader of a dedicated International Standards Organization work group. The group developed the ISO 19905-1 and ISO 19905-2 standards for assessing the safe operation of mobile offshore units.
Mr Hoyle led a large team of international mobile offshore structure specialists, representing rig-owners, class societies, oil companies, marine surveyors, consultants and regulators. The group spent more than fifteen years researching and developing the ISO Standards, before bringing them to publication.
"While it has been a group effort, the publication of the ISO would not have taken place without Mr Hoyle's personal leadership, persistence and dogged determination. It is for this individual contribution that he is being recognized," said Stephen Colville, IADC president and CEO during the presentation of the Exemplary Service Award.
Commenting on receiving his award, Mr Hoyle said: "This award is a reflection of all of the members of the work group. I'm grateful to the International Association of Drilling Contractors for recognising this important work."
ISO 19905-1, which was published in 2012, and ISO 19905-2, which will be published this year, set an important benchmark for oil and gas industry professionals to follow when undertaking mobile offshore unit site assessments. The Standards have been developed to embrace new technology, while providing coherent site assessment methodologies using industry best practice.
Based in London, Mr Hoyle is Head of Advanced Engineering for GL Noble Denton's UK Marine and Offshore operation. He is also chairman of the independent technical advisor's Technical Policy Board, which develops practical guidelines on all aspects of oil and gas industry operations. For more than 35 years, Mr Hoyle has been advising a wide range of oil and gas operators on ways to improve the safety, integrity and performance of their offshore assets.
