July 28, 1999

Marine interior contractor, James P. Colie & Associates, announced it is near completion of interior refurbishment work on Sovereign of the Seas for Royal Caribbean International. The dry-dock was May 3 - May 21, 1999 at Atlantic Marine in Mobile, Ala. A crew of 100 from James P. Colie & Associates replaced the interiors of the Windjammer Café, 15 public restrooms, Ship Shape Center and the stair landings from Deck 4 to Deck 12. In the Windjammer Café, structural modifications were made to enclose the 8,000-sq.-ft. outdoor dining area, install new automatic sliding doors and new aft entrances from the pool deck. The interior of the café is outfitted with all new ceilings, light fixtures, decorative valances, cherry laminates, wood sconces, bulkheads, buffet lines, Corian countertops with stainless steel trim, glass mosaic panels, carpet, and granite tile with mosaic inserts. The public restroom refurbishment includes a combination of 15 men's, women's and accessible restrooms that are being outfitted with new floor tile, base tile, granite and Corian vanities with colored glass inserts, decorative soffits, wallcoverings, stall partitions, and decorative mirror frames. In the Ship Shape Center, workers installed all new decorative tile, shower basins, liners and accessories in 8 shower stalls and new decorative vinyl tile in the treatment rooms. Prefabricated brass-framed light boxes were installed at each stair landing to display new decorative stencil art panels. James P. Colie has performed several interior renovation projects to Sovereign of the Seas since her delivery in 1988. In 1996 the company demolished and rebuilt the seven-store shopping mall, video arcade, and renovated 100 passenger cabins, two dining rooms, photo gallery, and performed miscellaneous SOLAS upgrades.
