Rolls-Royce Secures Two OSV Design Contracts
Rolls-Royce, a global power systems company, today announced that it has won a £15 million order to provide design, integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment for two offshore service vessels for ship owner Island Offshore. The contract includes options of four additional vessels.
Per Kristian Furø, Rolls-Royce General Sales Manager – Offshore said: “We have worked very closely with Island Offshore over the last decade to develop a wide range of advanced high quality platform supply and subsea service vessels. This long standing relationship has resulted in 40 designs being delivered or under construction.” The latest Rolls-Royce designed UT 717 CD platform supply vessels will encompass an integrated power and propulsion system incorporating main engines, controllable pitch propellers, bow and stern thrusters, deck machinery and an automation and control system. The overall length of each vessel will be 84.45 metres with a beam of 17 metres and a dead weight of approximately 3750 DWT.
They will be fitted out at the STX OSV yard in Brevik, Norway and will be ready for delivery in the latter half of 2013. In addition to this latest order, Island Offshore has a further three UT vessels under construction to be delivered from the Brevik yard, two of which are the first LNG powered Rolls-Royce designed offshore vessels. The UT 717 CD is a development of the UT 755 design with increased capacity, dead weight and deck load. For comparison the UT 717 CD is significantly smaller than a UT 776 CD and is placed in a class below this design, while it is a class above the UT 755 CD.
The UT 717 CD PSVs in this latest contract are 84.45m, 17m beam, have a dead weight of about 3750 DWT, with the ability to take 1800 tonnes of cargo on deck. These vessels will be powered by two Rolls-Royce C-series engines, each developing 2,560kW, and propelled by two Rolls-Royce gear and CP propel systems , two TT 1850 CP DPN bow thrusters and two TT 1650 CP DPN stern thrusters. 2 Furthermore Rolls-Royce is delivering electro package, automation system, Poscon Control system, Helicon X3 remote controls, bulk handling system, steering gears, rudders and deck machinery including capstans, windlass and tuggers. The vessels will each have facilities for a crew of 26 people.
