Survey: UK Subsea Companies Set for Bumper 2013
Subsea companies across the UK are set to grow by 20% or more in 2013, with some companies anticipating more than 50% growth. A survey of Subsea UK members revealed that 100% of firms are predicting significant growth in the next 12 months. Almost half expect to grow by 30% and a third by more than 50%. Almost 90% of those surveyed saw turnover and profits rise in 2012 with over half reporting growth of 20% and a fifth reporting more than 50% growth.
Construction Commences on Innovative LNG Carrier
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) recently commenced construction of the first ship in its “Sayaendo” Series, which it has developed as a new-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, at the company’s Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works. The LNG carrier is one of two ships ordered jointly by Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) in October 2011. ICS Updates Flag State Performance Table
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has launched its latest ‘Shipping Industry Flag State Performance Table’ which can be downloaded from the homepage of the ICS website. This year’s ICS table includes some new flag states which seem to be increasingly popular with some shipowners, such as Moldova and Sierra Leone, which join the ranks of flags such as Bolivia, Cambodia and Mongolia in being revealed by the table to have a somewhat patchy performance.

Crowley’s Tugboat Guard Performs Heroic Rescue

Long Island Coast Guard Receive New Boat
Coast Guard Station Eaton’s Neck, N.Y., receive a new 45-foot Response Boat-Medium (RB-M) rescue boat. The new boat, a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium (RB-M), was issued to replace one of two aging 41-foot utility boats at the station. The RB-M is an aluminum, self-righting, high-speed, multi-mission capable boat, able to respond rapidly to Coast Guard missions, or conduct planned patrols and training. The primary roles of the RB-M are search and rescue and maritime law enforcement.
