ESG Delivers Tractor Tug to Bisso Offshore
Eastern Shipbuilding Group (ESG) delivereed the Reverse Tractor Tug Archie T. Higgins to Bisso Offshore, LLC in late 2015. Upon arrival in Louisiana and at the mouth of the Mississippi River, the vessel went right to work escorting its first ship northbound to New Orleans. The vessel names honors Archibald (Archie) Thomas Higgins, Jr., who passed away earlier this year. Higgins helped lead the company’s operations from 1973 until 1995. Higgins also served on the Board of Directors of E.N.

Report Maps North Sea Wind Regulations
A new report maps the regulations and industry standards applicable to maritime operations in the offshore wind sector of Denmark, the U.K., Germany and the Netherlands. The report, which was drawn p by DNV GL for the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), focuses on the need to harmonize the regulations of the offshore wind industry. Harmonized regulations in the maritime area could contribute to the competitiveness of shipowners and eliminate any unnecessary administrative burdens.
GE LM6000PG Marine Module Package Certified
GE Marine and GE Oil & Gas announced that the marine module package design for its LM6000PG aeroderivative gas turbine has been certified by Lloyd’s Register and RINA Services (RINA). The test where the LM6000PG module effortlessly achieved 42 megawatts (MW) was conducted at the GE Oil & Gas facility in Massa, Italy. GE expects the actual Lloyd’s Register and RINA certification documents to be in hand by spring 2016.

Maritime Faces New Lease Accounting Standards
A new international accounting standard dealing with leases could have major implications for companies in the shipping and offshore maritime sectors, and particularly for time charterers, according to international accountant and shipping adviser Moore Stephens. The new standard, IFRS 16, is effective for periods beginning on or after January 1, 2019, although early adoption is allowed. It covers all leases, whether the company acts as a lessor or a lessee.
