Marlink Teams with Greek Shipping Company

Marlink today announced that it has signed a business agreement with Springfield Shipping Company SA located in Athens, Greece, to provide maritime satellite communications services for the company's 11 highly modern Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC's) and 6 dry cargo vessels. Under the terms of the open-ended agreement, which began in May of this year, Marlink will now provide Mini-M satellite communications, via the Inmarsat system, for both ship's business as well as for crew calling for the company's entire fleet. According to the Springfield Shipping Company management team, "The communications solution we have selected is the one most suitable for our company and our maritime communications requirements. We are absolutely sure that Marlink will meet our high expectations and standards." "Springfield's decision to team with Marlink was based on a number of business criteria where Marlink clearly offers them distinct advantages," said John Serafim, director of Marlink's Athens regional office. "We offered Springfield unmatched quality of service and reliability, global coverage, and unparalleled customer support available to address their communications requirements around-the-clock and in all of the ocean regions of the world." Springfield Shipping Company SA is a highly respected company in the Greek Shipping Industry and was founded by Aristotle Onassis, one of the most famous Greek shipping tycoons of the post-World War II era. Springfield, along with Olympic Shipping and Management SA are owned and managed by the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. The foundation, established by Aristotle Onassis upon his death in 1975, is active in developing public benefit projects in Greece and internationally. The foundation manages a vast number of companies with a multitude of activities ranging from hospitals to university research centers.
