Maritime industry executives Captain Michael Wilson and Jim Watson are keynote speakers for SHIPPINGInsight 2014, North America’s premier maritime industry technical forum, Sept. 30 through Oct. 2, 2014 in Stamford, Conn., at the Sheraton Stamford Hotel.

Wilson, president of Laurin Maritime (Americas) Inc. and chief operating officer of Laurin Maritime, and Watson, president and chief operating officer of ABS Americas, will be the lead speakers at SHIPPINGInsight’s Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition on Oct. 1 and 2.

At Laurin Maritime, Wilson oversees the Laurin Maritime managed fleet of tankers for chemicals and oil. Prior to being named president, he worked for Laurin Maritime AB in Sweden and is currently also serving as the Chairman of Intertanko vetting committee.

For ABS Americas, Watson is responsible for all operations of the American Bureau of Shipping in the Western Hemisphere. Prior to joining ABS, he served as director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) at the U.S. Department of Interior. In this role, he provided regulatory oversight for energy exploration and production on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. Before joining the BSEE as director, Watson served as the U.S. Coast Guard’s director of Prevention Policy for Marine Safety, Security and Stewardship.

The Fleet Optimization Conference & Exhibition will be preceded by a full-day dedicated Marine LNG Symposium Sept. 30. Both events are part of SHIPPINGInsight 2014.

The Fleet Optimization Conference is a two-day event that brings together senior executives from shipowners, ship managers, classification societies, regulatory bodies, consultancies and suppliers to address the pressing issues facing fleet operators in the current business climate.

“As keynote speakers, these two industry leaders will kick off each morning of the conference with their unique observations and perspectives on the challenges and solutions for enhancing fleet optimization and ship operating efficiency,” said Frank Soccoli, conference co-producer. “In addition to the keynoters, we have assembled a dynamite lineup of panel speakers and moderators, including more than 28 executives from major shipping companies.”

The agenda for the Fleet Optimization Conference will include sessions on Designing & Building Efficient Ships, Fuel & Propulsion Management, Ship Performance & Optimization, Fleet Intelligence & Optimization and Crew Resource Management, as well as an open-discussion Ship Telematics Roundtable. The Marine LNG Symposium will feature panels on Navigating the Regulatory Environment, LNG Bunkering, Designing for LNG and LNG Infrastructure, followed by an open roundtable Q&A with industry leaders.

“In addition to the panel sessions and roundtable discussions, SHIPPINGInsight offers a unique opportunity for stakeholders in all segments of the industry to meet informally,” said conference co-producer Jim Rhodes. “The evening receptions, luncheons and coffee breaks are held in the exhibit hall, giving ample opportunity for exhibitors to showcase their products and services to ship operators.”
