A&P Southampton to Repair RFA Ship

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) fleet support vessel Fort George is to be repaired at the Southampton facility of A&P Group. It arrived at the yard on August 15 and is scheduled to be redelivered by September 9.

Work will include an Assisted Maintenance Period (AMP) with additional work including overhaul to the insulation, electrical, piping and valve systems. There is also steel work to be carried out following a collision. The vessel does not require a drydocking operation during this period.

A&P Shipcare (South East) was successful in winning the contract using the drydock at Southampton as a floating location for the ship, and making use of the large on-site cranage to effect the repairs. A&P Shipcare (South East) will be sub-contracting some of the work to Southampton’s Testbank Ltd, who had been one of the original bidders against A&P for the whole contract.

The success of this contract will again demonstrate A&P Group’s ability to deliver a flexible service to meet customer’s specific requirements.
