MOL Sails Back into Southhampton

At 1,050 ft in length and capable of carrying over 8000 containers, the MOL Cosmos was an impressive sight as she sailed into Southampton for the first time early this morning.  Although MOL has been offering services into Southampton as part of The New World Alliance, the arrival marked a return of MOL-owned vessels to the port after a break of several months.

“MOL has been a long-time supporter of the port of Southampton, and we are very pleased to be able to include our newest and biggest vessels in the services we offer to and from the port,” commented Adrian Jones, MOL’s Regional General Manager for the UK and Ireland.

The MOL Cosmos is operating on MOL’s South China Express Service and will also call at Zeebrugge, Hamburg and Rotterdam before heading back to the Far East via the Suez Canal.

The 8100 TEU vessel is one of MOL’s largest containerships and at 1,050 ft in length, it is just 13 ft short of the Eiffel Tower. With a breadth of 151 ft the MOL Cosmos is too large to transit the Panama Canal.

MOL is a multi-modal transport company, operating more than 800 vessels and employing a workforce in excess of 8,600 worldwide.
