Maritime recruitment specialist Spinnaker Consulting has reported that despite general reports of a slowdown in the world economy, recruitment in the shipping, offshore and transport markets remains buoyant.
Writing in the latest issue of Changing Course, Spinnaker's monthly e-mail newsletter, managing director Phil Parry says, "Contrary to most industry forecasts, 2002 does not look like being such a bad year for the shipping, offshore and transport job markets. We are currently experiencing a high demand for charterers and shipbrokers with 5-10 years' experience. Appetites
are also healthy for maritime and insurance lawyers. This includes both litigators and finance specialists and not just at the usual 1-5 year qualified level, but equity partners too. The marine insurance market is also hiring again and demand is not just for war risk underwriters, but hull underwriters and technicians as well."
Spinnaker Consulting has also reported a recent increase in demand for newbuilding expertise, in particular for specialists with LNG experience.
