New MTU North America Training Courses
MTU North American Training Center announces arrival of new Series 8000 marine engine for maintenance & repair training.
Tognum America has announced the arrival of an MTU Series 8000 marine engine at its 30,000 square-foot MTU Training Center in Canton, Mich. The Series 8000 is used in mega-yachts, commercial marine and defense applications. Measuring over 11 feet high, 21 feet long, and with dry weight of 46,200 kg (101,853 lbs), the Series 8000 is the largest and most powerful engine produced by MTU.
This new addition to MTU’s extensive engine collection in Canton will be used for in-depth maintenance and repair training courses pertaining to the Series 8000, which can be found in passenger ferries, large displacement yachts, naval auxiliary vessels, corvettes, frigates, destroyers and landing ships with stringent naval requirements. Most notably, the U.S. Navy’s new class of Joint High Speed Vessels (JHSV) and Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) are powered by the MTU Series 8000.
“The addition of the Series 8000 to the MTU Training Center enables us to offer Series 8000 training to Navy and Coast Guard personnel, as well as shipbuilders, here in the U.S. for the first time,” said Wolfgang Griener, senior manager, MTU Training Center. “Previously, such training was only available in Germany. Our new Series 8000 training courses will provide our North American customers with the information and hands-on experience they need to keep their equipment performing at optimal levels.”
