Washburn & Doughty Delivers Karen Moran

Washburn & Doughty delivered Karen Moran, second in a series of six identical Z Drive tugs being constructed for the Moran Towing Corporation of Greenwich, Conn. Karen Moran will join sistership Marci Moran in Norfolk, Va., where the two vessels are contracted by the Military Sealift Command for submarine and ship assist work. Karen Moran measures 92 x 32 x 13.8 ft. and is built to ABS Maltese Cross A1, AMS with notation: Towing Service standards. Service speed for Karen Moran is 13 knots and it has a 32,000 gallon fuel oil capacity. The vessel is powered by two EMD 16-645-E2 main engines rated at 4,000 hp, 900 rpm and driving Ulstein Z Drives. Karen Moran uses Hule D fendering for the side and sub fendering and Schuyler Soft Loop on both the bow and stern. On deck, the vessel features two Markey capstans and two 1500 SCUM fire monitors fed by a 3,000 gpm Aurora fire pump. The pilot house is outfitted with a Furuno GP35 GPS, two ICOM M127 VHFs, a Furuno FR 7062/4 radar and a Danforth Constellation compass.
