Cutter Suction Dredge Designed to Withstand Siberian Weather

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

February 24, 2003

A Russian customer placed an order for a CSD350 Cutter Suction Dredge with VOSTA LMG. This cutter suction dredge will be one with special requirements, as it is due to operate in Siberia with weather conditions up to minus 40º Celsius. Special attention went out to the extreme operating (-15OC) and winterizing conditions (-40OC). Engines, hydraulic system, suction pipeline, discharge pipeline, pump assembly, the heating systems, lubrication oil and hydraulic oil are adjusted to these conditions. VOSTA LMG will deliver the dredge early April 2003. The Russian contractor plans to use the dredge to construct sand roads on the northern tundra’s to make the oil and gas fields accessible during the summer period when they are swampy after being frozen in the winter. The dredge is of the dismountable and easy transportable type so it can transported to the tundra’s before summer. After the summer, when the temperature starts to decrease, the dredge can be dismounted and stored.
