Port of Corpus Starts Recovery after Hurricane Harvey
The Port of Corpus Christi has begun its recovery efforts after initial assessments show light to moderate damage and debris from the impact of Harvey, which hit the major port as a Category 4 hurricane, the port director said on Sunday. "We are completing our initial assessments and are working with the Army Corps of Engineers to start a channel survey as early as tomorrow and expect a successful recovery effort," said John LaRue, the port's executive director.
Nexans’ New Cable-Layer under Construction
Nexans said construction has started on its new cable-laying vessel for submarine HV cable systems installation. The vessel is being built by Croatia-based shipyard ULJANIK Group and is expected to be delivered and start operations by Q3 2020. The high capacity vessel is designed for worldwide installation of large volumes of HVDC and HVAC cable systems, covering the complete Nexans submarine product range, and has a 10 000-ton capacity turntable.

USS Charleston (LCS 18) Christened

US Navy Awards USS Fitzgerald Heavy Lift Contract
The U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command has awarded a $3.1 million firm, fixed-price contract for the heavy lift of USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) following a fatal collision with a Philippine containership off the coast of Japan on June 17. Houston based Patriot Shipping has been awarded the contract to move Fitzgerald from Yokosuka, Japan, to Pascagoula, Miss. where the ship will be repaired by Huntington Ingalls Industries. Heavy-lift will be completed by November 2017.
