Ingram Barge Names New CEO
Ingram Barge Company announced today that Orrin H. Ingram is the new Chief Executive Officer of the company, succeeding Craig Philip who is retiring effective June 30, 2014. Ingram has been the Chairman of Ingram Barge Co. since 1998. He also is the President and CEO of the barge company’s parent company, Ingram Industries Inc. “Craig’s valuable guidance has played an integral part in the success of the barge company during his 28 years with Ingram,” Orrin Ingram said.

Schwarz Joins ZF Marine North America
ZF Marine Propulsion Systems Miramar LLC, the North American arm of ZF Friedrichshafen AG Marine Propulsion Systems, announced that Ed Schwarz has joined the team as Business Development Manager for the Commercial and Fast Craft product line in North America. In his new role, Ed will be responsible for working closely with both the sales and aftermarket organizations to develop strategies that best align ZF’s products with industry needs.
World’s Largest Liftboat Up for Delivery
SUDA 450-L3T, a 450-foot (137.25-meter) truss-legged liftboat, designed by A. K. Suda, Ltd. and built by Triyards Marine, Saigon Shipyard in HCMC, Vietnam, reported to be the world’s largest liftboat, is being delivered to its owners, EMAS Offshore of Singapore at the end of 2nd Quarter 2014. This state-of-the-art vessel is a three-legged, self-propelled, self-elevating general service workboat, known as the BH-450, and is suitable for operation in the North Sea.

Wavelink Maritime Institute Selects Transas Simulators
Wavelink Maritime Institute has launched a new maritime simulation center in May powered by Transas simulators. The Wavelink Maritime Simulation Center is a training arm of the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union (SMOU) and one of the first few maritime institutes in Singapore to house four different types of simulators in one location. The center, which costs $4 million, has a class of 16 workstations to train ECDIS operations.

BIMCO: Greek Shipowners Prefer Bulkers
The buying interest from Greek ship owners is focused on bulkers to an increasing extent, BIMCO said. Data from VesselsValue.com reveal that Greek owners were at the buying end of 43% of all bulker sales completed so far in 2014. As of June 2014, the number of Greek bulker purchases so far is 91, compared to 81 for the full year of 2012. The level of activity seen so far in 2014 would suggest Greek owners are on target to top the 199 bulker purchases completed in 2013.
