General Dynamics Awarded 'USS Hartford' Contract
U.S. Navy awards General Dynamics Electric Boat a US$42-million for 'USS Hartford' maintenance and modernization. MARMAC 302 Launched
McDonough Marine Service announced the launching of the MARMAC 302, the first of two new 300ā x 100ā x 20' ABS Class ocean going barges commissioned by the barge and marine transportation company. The barges were designed by Dan Jones & Associates with an ABS Load line maximum cargo capacity of 13,200 short tons at 15.7ā draft. The uniform deck strength of 4,500 lbs/sq. ft., combined with a increased side shell strength, provides clients with maximum hull protection.

New Fuels for the Maritime Sector in Spain?
The European Union will support with over ā¬1 million from the TEN-T Program a series of studies to assess the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a shipping fuel in the Port of Gijón in Spain. The project, which was selected for funding under the 2011 TEN-T Annual Call, involves conducting studies to evaluate the feasibility and plan the necessary infrastructure adaptations for the use of LNG as a shipping fuel in the Port of Gijón.
ESTC Earns ClassNK Certification
Leading class society ClassNK announced that it has certified the Bridge Resource Management (BRM), Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS) and Engine-room Resource Management (ERM) training courses offered by the Evergreen Seafarer Training Center (ESTC). The new certification confirms that the training programs meet the requirements of ClassNK standards, IMO model course requirements and the STCW Code. The official certificate was presented to Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan) Ltd.

Coast Guard Response to Vicksburg Spill Continues
The unified command continues to respond to a crude oil spill in the lower Mississippi River near mile marker 436 in Vicksburg, Miss., Thursday. At 10:05 a.m. response crews removed fuel from the damaged barge MOC-12 after reconfiguring oil-pump equipment. Following completion of the oil removal operations the damaged barge will be inspected and prepared for transit to a maritime facility in nearby Vicksburg.
