MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) acquires Pratt & Whitney Power Systems' 'Small & Medium-size Gas Turbine' business unit. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) concludes an agreement with United Technologies Corporation (UTC) of the U.S. PWPS engages primarily in the engineering, assembly and sales of aero-derivative gas turbines and also provides services of gas turbines and engineering, procurement and construction of related power generation systems.
Cat Marine Engines to Re-Power Six Tugboats
American Commercial Lines (ACL) select Cat® C280 marine engines for repowering six of their towboats. The first vessels being repowered are the MV J. Russel Flowers and the MV Thurston B. Morton. Cat dealer Whayne Power Systems is assisting with the repower project. ACL has been operating three of its higher horsepower towboats since 1998 powered with Cat 3612 engines. The Cat 3612 engine, the predecessor to the C280, has proven to be reliable and durable.

Container Shipping Line Invests in Port of Long Beach
CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest container shipping line, purchases a stake in the Port of Long Beach’s Pier J. The deal will bring an additional 2.6 million container units to the Port and increase Port revenues by about $70 million over the next five years. Aker Wins Deepwater Drill Riser Contract
Aker Solutions contracted by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) to supply deepwater drilling riser. The 10 000 ft deepwater drilling CLIP riser system will be manufactured and delivered out of Aker Solutions' manufacturing plant in Port Klang, Malaysia. Delivery of the drilling riser system is scheduled for November 2014. The contract value is undisclosed. The delivery is related to the second of two options included in the drilling riser contract announced in July 2011.
