Launching of the Helgoland
Nicolette Kressl, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, named the new vessel of the German Customs Administration Helgoland. The Helgoland has been built from 2007 to 2009 by TKMS Blohm + Voss Nordseewerke in Emden, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. Numerous representatives from politics, industry and administration watched the naming and commissioning ceremony of the new customs vessel at the Überseebrücke in Hamburg.
Marine Builders Delivers to Waxler
Waxler Transportation Co. has taken delivery of the fourth in a series of five 3200 HP pushboats. The latest sister, the Angela Jean, was delivered to Secors inland transport subsidiary in July of this year. Others in this series of 99 by 35-ft towboats are the Dylan Wexler, delivered in 2007, the McKenzie Waxler and the Cynthia G. Esper, delivered in 2008. The Angela Jean has now joined the growing Waxler fleet. The Helen Merrill is scheduled for delivery in December of this year.

Ocean Tug & Barge Delivers FacetTug Design
Ocean Tug & Barge Engineering Corp. has completed the engineering of an AT/B conversion for Reinauer Transportation of Staten Island, N.Y., the third such AT/B conversion engineered by the Milford, Mass. firm for Reinauer with a fourth currently underway. The converted AT/B tug Craig Eric Reinauer was recently delivered by Senesco Marine of North Kingstown, R.I., to Reinauer Transportation. The 4610 BHP tug received an Intercon connection system at the Rhode Island shipyard.
Maritime Mentorship Programme 2009
On July 28 2009, the T&T Shipbuilding and Repair (S&R) Cluster undertook two presentations to some 50 mentees which formed part of their contribution to this annual Maritime Programme. Organized by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago (GoTT) as an initiative to promote the Shipbuilding and Repair sector to young persons between the age group 15–17 years, the long term aim is to help diversify the country from the energy sector.

German Ship Released by Pirates
Having been held hostage for four months, Hansa Stavanger is now underway to a safe port accompanied by two EU NAVFOR frigates of the German Navy operating in the area in support of the EU-lead Anti Piracy Operation Atalanta. Shortly after being released by the pirates, a German Navy security team went onboard Hansa Stavanger and provided medical aid and logistical support. The German owned container vessel Hansa Stavanger has been held hostage by Somali pirates since April 4th this year.

Lockport, La., Bollinger Gretna, L.L.C. of Harvey, La., a Bollinger shipyard, has delivered B. No. 284, a double hull 80,000 bbl oil tank barge built to meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90) to Bouchard Ocean Services, Melville, N.Y. Barge B. No. 284 is a manned ocean, clean oil tank barge measuring 399-ft, 11-inches long, with a 74-ft beam and a depth of 28-ft, 6-inches.
