Yanmar Accelerated Endurance Testing

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 20, 2011

Recognized nationwide for his fishing expertise, Capt. Dave Mistretta has spent more than 30 years as a big game saltwater guide in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida.  His Dorado 40, Jaws Too, employs a 530 hp Yanmar 6CX-530 engine supplied by Mastry Engine Center.  As one of the first to try out one of these engines, Mistretta easily logged over 2,200 hours of operation in just two years.

When most boaters put an average of 100-200 hours a year on their engine, it can be hard to gather enough data to quickly determine its level of reliability.  "I kind of did five to ten years worth of testing on the 6CX-530 in only two years.  I ran it constantly, day in and day out, pushing it to the limit in all kinds of rough conditions without any problems.  This accelerated test has proven the high quality of Yanmar engines to me."

"After three decades of chartering, I'm totally loyal to Yanmar products.  I wouldn't try anything else for power," said Mistretta.  "During the install and after, Mastry was easy to work with and very knowledgable about the 6CX-530.  Any questions I had, they could answer."

The 6CX-530 is a 6-cylinder, vertical, water-cooled diesel engine producing 530 hp at 2,900 rpm.  It is also EPA Tier 2 compliant.  The 6CX-530 can push Jaws Too over 30 mph.  Sleek, fast and comfortable, the boat is available for charters.

Capt. Dave Mistretta has dominated both the charter industry and the tournament circuit throughout his career.  He's been featured in nationally published magazines, writes a fishing column and provides expert advice to thousands via TV appearances.

Established in 1962, Mastry is the company to turn to for challenging gas and diesel engine applications and installations.  Providing power solutions to OEM and re-power markets, it supports a network of over 140 authorized dealers throughout the US and Caribbean.
