Wärtsilä Italia S.p.A. and Meloni Heavy Industries S.p.A. have finalized an agreement concerning the manufacturing of welded parts. By signing this agreement Wärtsilä transfers its entire component factory business in Italy including assets and resources to Meloni on January 1, 2002. The transfer of about 115 skilled operators to Meloni will ensure the manufacturing of welded structures and components, enabling the business to continue uninterrupted in both companies.

After considering different possibilities Meloni, was chosen as a suitable partner with the structure to continue and further develop the welding activities related to the engines produced by Wärtsilä Italy. Meloni was at the same time looking for more production space in order to be able to develop its activities and found suitable facilities in the component factory at Wärtsilä's premises in Trieste. Through this agreement, Wärtsilä likewise has reached its aim to concentrate on its core production activities in engine manufacturing, while ensuring continuity in the supply of components through a local supplier.
