Major UK Port, Waterway Authority, Now Uner One Banner

Port of Liverpool & the Manchester Ship Canal become one entity under Peel Ports' management, the UK's second largest ports group.

These two dynamic international trading centres form a single 44 mile seaway to the heart of the UK and Britain's richest cargo creating and consuming region outside London.

Together, the Port of Liverpool and Manchester Ship Canal offer a comprehensive range of port facilities, handling more than 40 million tonnes of cargo and 15,000 ship movements a year – making the River Mersey Britain's third busiest estuary.

The Port and Canal form the "green" gateway to an economy of more than 120,000 industrial and commercial enterprises and a population equal to that of greater London.

Once the fiercest commercial rivals, the Port of Liverpool and the Manchester Ship Canal are now as one under the banner of Peel Ports, the UK's second largest ports group.

Peel Ports' planned investment amounting to more than £200 million, will further enhance the potential of the Port and Canal as hubs for international trade and an  environmentally friendly waterborne alternative to inland road haulage.
