KMSS Seals Brazilian Contracts

Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) has taken orders to provide over $3 million worth of services and equipment to Petrobras and Metalnave SA, both based in Brazil. KMSS products are also set to be displayed at this years World Petroleum Expo, to be held in Rio this September. KMSS will supply Autrocargo cargo monitoring systems for the Petrobras P-43 and P-48 Floating Production Storage and Offloading Vessels (FPSO’s), currently under construction in Singapore and Brazil and bound for the Barracuda and Caratinga field developments. Petrobras has 11 FPSO’s in operation and under construction, 8 of which have been fitted out with KMSS systems. The latest deal is a result of a long-term relationship between KMSS and Petrobras, built on confidence and a complete operational understanding of the systems involved. KMSS also offers long term customer support and after sales service from its organisation, in Brazil. The Autrocargo system consists of many elements including 18 cargo tank radar antenna units, temperature sensors and inert gas pressure transmitters, independent 95% and 98% high level alarm system and offshore type SDRL documentation. KMSS will also supply pressure transmitters for draft measurements, ballast and service tank level measurements. The system will be operated by 2 workstations including a cargo computer and an NL-300 colour graphic presentation. Technical assistance and training of operational personnel will also be offered by KMSS. Bridgeline and C20 for MetalNave In a package worth $2 million, KMSS will supply Bridgeline Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS) and Datachief C20 Machinery Automation Systems to 3 LPG tankers owned by Metalnave SA. All three tankers are being built at the Itajai SA shipyard in Brazil. Included in the package is a fully integrated navigation system with Databridge 29” high-resolution Radar/ARPA colour displays and control units. SeaMap ECDIS, conning information display system, bridge monitoring and alarm systems will also be supplied along with KMSS designed and manufactured work stations/consoles. In addition, KMSS will also provide technical assistance for system architecture, overall bridge layout, training and after sales service. The Datachief C20 Machinery Automation system is essentially an alarm monitoring and control system, though it’s modular design means that extra functionality can be added with ease. The C20 uses Distributed Processing Units (DPU's) that communicate with each other on a redundant fieldbus CAN (controller area network), an industrial standard known for its built-in safety. Remote monitoring and control of the DPU’s is achieved by using Local Operator Stations connected directly to the CAN and/or to Remote Operator Stations, connected via a Local Area Network (Ethernet). This system has been very successful and since the first C20 system was delivered in 1998 more than 500 Ships have been equipped with the system. The C20 is now the market leader in all the major shipbuilding countries. The Rio Oil & Gas Exhibition KMSS will have a presence at the Rio Oil & Gas Exhibition (World Petroleum Expo) being held in Rio de Janeiro on September 1st – 5th. Official South American agents Pontec Engenharia e Comercio Ltda will be exhibiting KMSS products at the event, which is being held alongside the 17th WPC and offers 30,000 square meters of stands and over 800 exhibitors.
