Cambiaso&Risso takes over Carlo Sciaccaluga srl

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

July 29, 2011

Ship Agency Cambiaso&Risso has taken over Carlo Sciaccaluga srl, the historic ship agency established in 1903 as a forwarding agent in Genoa port and now boasting a solid reputation in the food industry, vegetable oils and chemical sector (particularly Biodiesel), and many customers at an international level. This is another important takeover for Cambiaso&Risso Agency, which contributes to strengthening its international leadership in the maritime service sector.
The agreement was signed a few days ago between Sampierdarena Olii srl - which owns Carlo Sciaccaluga srl and is part of SAAR DP SpA, owner of the largest coastal food warehouse in Genoa Port and the fastest-growing company in this sector over the last few years – and Cambiaso&Risso: it will enter into force in September 2011, allowing the latter to further boost its business in the food/vegetable oil sector, while safeguarding and enhancing the activities of Carlo Sciaccaluga (whose reputation and success at an international level, particularly in the Mediterranean basin, has a century-old history), also through the potential cooperation with the SAAR/Sampierdarena Olii Group.
Cambiaso&Risso’s Chairman Giovanni Paolo Risso commented as follows: “Our Group is aiming to grow internationally - as confirmed by the recent opening of a branch in Singapore – without, however, missing any opportunities to invest in the Liguria Region too. The takeover of Carlo Sciaccaluga srl (which at Genoa Port serves one hundred vessel calls per year) bears witness to this philosophy”.
Established in 1946 in Genoa as a maritime service provider, the Ship Agency Cambiaso&Risso is now present in all Mediterranean ports and can rely on a close-knit network of branches both in Italy (Savona, Livorno, Civitavecchia, Naples, Augusta, Santa Panagia, Milazzo, and Venice) and abroad (Munich, Rijeka, Koper and Marseille).
Every year the Agency manages over 2,500 vessel calls per year, including cargo vessels, containers, oil tankers, cruisers and yachts. In the cruising sector Cambiaso & Risso has served the most important Italian and foreign cruise lines for more than 15 years, offering 360° assistance in the landing ports to ships and passengers alike, organising interesting excursions in cities of art and constantly searching for new, attractive destinations. One of the most recent transactions was the signature of a commercial agreement with the Municipality of Santa Margherita Ligure for the promotion of the local marina and the management of relations with the new cruise lines calling at Santa Margherita.
Since March 2010 the Ship Agency has also been investing in the container sector, becoming the only representative in Italy for Ot Africa Line (OTAL – the leading West African shipping line) and offering all stakeholders a weekly service to, from, and within West Africa with full container ships calling at the ports of Genoa, Livorno and Naples. New possible destinations and agency services for companies operating in this sector are currently being developed.
