August 26, 2005

Pauline Pane und Carolina Echevarria today christened two containerships at Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW) in Kiel, Germany, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, under the names "Carolina E" and "Andres E". Both ships are part of an order for four modern 2,500 TEU container ships that was concluded in June 2003 with MPC Münchmeyer Petersen Steamship GmbH & Co KG. The first two ships were already delivered in 2004.

The "Carolina E" is going to the current owner, FHH Fonds Haus Hamburg and the operating shipping company NSC Schifffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Cie KG. It will sail under the name "Maersk Narbonne" under the charter of the Danish shipping company Maersk. The "Andres E" will probably be delivered in November 2005.

The ships are modern container ships with a container capacity of 2,490 containers, of which 958 are below deck and 1,532 are above. The load-bearing capacity amounts to 34,400 tons. They are 211.85 metres long, 29.80 metres wide and have a maximum draught of 11.40 metres. The official speed is 22 knots (around 40 km/h) at an engine output of 21,560 KW.
