Donjon Completes Ferry Boat Removal

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

August 8, 2005

Donjon Marine Co., Inc. was awarded a contract to perform a wreck removal of a former NY City Ferry Boat which had sunk on the banks of the Kill Van Kull in Bayonne, NJ, in June. The vessel sank during efforts to remove the deckhouse and to convert the vessel to a dock/work platform. At its deepest, the vessel was in approximately 40 feet of water. The work was completed by the “chopper beam” method of wreck removal, which Donjon has used on hundreds of similar projects where the lack of watertight integrity prohibits a refloating effort. Donjon’s 200-ton capacity derrick barge Farrell 256 was employed to perform the work, which was completed in approximately 30 workdays, in late July 2005.
