Annual Harbor Safety Committee Conference

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

April 7, 2009

The U.S. Coast Guard's Office of Waterways Management is sponsoring the 11th Annual Harbor Safety Committee Conference in Tampa, Fla., at the Marriott Tampa Waterside Hotel May 27-29.

The event aims to bring together dozens of harbor safety committees from around the country to continue improving communication, collaboration and coordination among policy makers, transportation planners, shippers and others in the maritime industry. The deadline for registration is April 15.

Invited speakers include Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen, Carnival Cruise Lines Vice President Brendan Corrigan and senior officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Maritime Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

For the past decade, the Coast Guard has sponsored the National Harbor Safety conferences to promote information sharing between local harbor safety committees to improve maritime safety within their seaports. This is one of the many ways the Coast Guard serves the nation by working with other agencies, industry partners and members of the public to enhance maritime safety, security and stewardship. Panel discussions include a wide variety of marine transportation system and safety issues.

All registration, accommodations and exhibitor information is available on the conference Web site (www.trb.org/conferences/2009/HSC/). If you have any further questions, please contact either Joedy Cambridge or Brie Schwartz at (202) 334-3015.
