Vard to Build Two Cruise Ships

The subsidiary of Fincantieri Vard Holdings Limited (Vard) has signed a letter of intent with an international shipping company for the design and construction of two ships from small cruise. The hulls will be built in the Romanian shipyard in Tulcea while the delivery of the units is provided, respectively, in the first quarter of 2019 and 2020, at the Vard site Langsten, Norway.

The parties shared the intent to arrive at the signing of the contracts at the beginning of the third quarter of this year.

The ships, for which Fincantieri will participate by providing some important parts made ​​in Italy,  are designed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway, in cooperation with the customer, with a specific emphasis on the quality of the stands, certified ice-class , the highest anti-pollution and safety requirements. They will have a length of 137 meters, a width of 22 and a gross tonnage of about 14,500 tons, accommodating 240 passengers in 120 cabins.

This success reinforces the Vard diversification strategy, implemented in close collaboration with Fincantieri, which has already given important results with the achievement of prestigious goals, such as a letter of intent for four luxury cruise ships to small for the French shipowner Ponant, a subsidiary of the Artemis group ( holding company of the Pinault family) .

Fincantieri owns 55.63% of the VARD capital and consolidates the results in full.
