Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

April 25, 2016

The assembly of TUI Cruises ship Mein Schiff 6 at Meyer Turku shipyard started today 25.4.2016 with the laying of the first grandblock in the big building dock. When ready in 2017, Mein Schiff 6 will be a fourth high-technology cruise ship being built in Turku shipyard for TUI Cruises and marks the continuation of good cooperation between the two companies.

Following old traditions of the shipyard coins were placed under the keel block to bring luck for the ship. Representatives of TUI Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Meyer Turku and the classification society Det Norske Veritas, invited guests, and members of the press joined the event.

When ready, Mein Schiff 6 will be approximately 294 meters long, have 15 decks with around 1,267 staterooms and the capacity to carry approximately 2,534 passengers. 90 percent of the cabins are outside cabins and 82 percent have a balcony. Mein Schiff ships have all been constructed to the latest technological standards using innovative and environmentally-friendly technologies. Mein Schiff 6, will feature a number of improvements in terms of energy efficiency and passenger amenities – even over her sister ships Mein Schiff 3-5. Thanks to the advanced exhaust cleaning system that uses a scrubber and catalytic converter, sulphur emissions can be reduced by approximately 99 percent and nitrogen oxide emissions by around 75 percent.

Meyer Turku CEO Jan Meyer is very happy with the start of the hull assembly of Mein Schiff 6, “After many months of planning and pre-production we are starting a very exciting period in the building of Mein Schiff 6: It will now only take 7 months until the ship is fully assembled from its grand blocks. This period in which the ship takes shape is then followed by further outfitting, commissioning and testing works. We are very pleased with our long-lasting cooperation with TUI Cruises.”

TUI Cruises CEO Wybke Meier was also present at Turku shipyard for the ceremonies. He added, “The expansion of our fleet continues: while Mein Schiff 5 is laying at the pier to be delivered in only a couple of weeks, from today on our latest well-being ship is growing in the drydock. We would like to thank the yard Meyer Turku for this successful cooperation".
