C-Shipping & Logistics Established in Rotterdam

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

October 13, 2019

C-Shipping & Logistics handles freight transport from origin to destination and is a strong new addition to the port of Rotterdam’s roster of players. The new company was founded by Rederij de Jong, after teaming up for the occasion with two other big names in shipping and transport: Wouter Kleiss and Mathijs van Schaik.

As operational directors, Kleiss and Van Schaik bring along a large network in the shipping sector, and Rederij de Jong ranks as one of the largest shipping companies in the inland shipping and push towing segments. “Through this partnership, we hope to transport even more cargo to the hinterland via Rotterdam.”

C-Shipping & Logistics works as a shipbroker and ship agent and is involved in inland shipping, storage and handling. “We often carry freight directly on behalf of the cargo owner. In the case of sea freight, we can now also handle that leg of the voyage too,” explains Rederij de Jong’s Managing Director Pelger de Jong. “This means that we can offer the market a broader range of services, including transport from origin to destination.”

The family business Rederij de Jong B.V. was founded in the late 19th century. Pieter de Jong Senior, Pelger de Jong’s great-great grandfather, worked as a coal trader and bought a ship so he could transport increasingly high volumes of this commodity. Following generations continued to expand the company’s inland shipping and push towing activities.

“Some time ago, we recognised the potential rewards of expanding our programme with sea shipping services. And by a fortunate coincidence, [former Steder Group Chartering directors] Kleiss and Van Schaik were looking to take on a new challenge,” says De Jong.

According to De Jong, shipping is a ‘people’s business’. “People prefer to do business with the same familiar faces. At C-Shipping & Logistics, we have brought together our contacts in Rotterdam and around the world. We may be a new player in the sector, but we can actually fall back on a vast network. In the period ahead, we plan to expand our services and fleet even further – with more handling, cargo checks and our own short sea coasters.”
