Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

June 6, 2002

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and the Maritime Administration (MARAD) are entertaining proposals to participate in ballast water treatment research and technology demonstration projects that address the problem of aquatic invasive species entering U.S. waters from ballast water. In 2002 only, it is expected that about $2.1 million will be made available to support qualifying projects, especially in the Great Lakes and Chesapeake Bay, and that several ships in the Ready Reserve Force Fleet will be made available to serve as test platforms. Proposals seeking funding must be submitted by July 22, 2002. Source: HK Law
