The Coast Guard Foundation extended congratulations to Traverse City, Michigan and the members of Air Station Traverse City on their recent designation as a “Coast Guard City.” Awarded by the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard and approved by Congress, the honor is given to select communities that have made special efforts to acknowledge the professional work of the Coast Guard men and women assigned to their area. This year’s Traverse City Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner, which took place on Friday, January 28th at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa, celebrated the Coast Guard, showcased operations from the past year and outlined the strategy for future activities in the region. Coast Guard Foundation President, Anne B. Brengle attended the event to congratulate the men and women of Air Station Traverse City, thank the community for recognizing the hard work of those who guard our shores, and share the mission of the Foundation.

“Traverse City has demonstrated a remarkable relationship between the community and the Air Station and we want to acknowledge and show our appreciation for their efforts,” said Brengle. “What may seem to some as merely neighborly to the citizens of Traverse City is deeply felt by the men and women of the Coast Guard. We offer our congratulations to Traverse City on this tremendous accomplishment, and to RDML Michael Parks, CDR Jonathan Spaner and Air Station Traverse City on this very special occasion.”

Brengle also attended a lunch for the Economic Club of Traverse City. Following CDR Spaner’s keynote address on the economic impact the base has on Traverse City, she spoke about the Coast Guard Foundation and its ability to support the men and women of the Coast Guard and their families. Following the speech, the Club presented a donation to the Coast Guard Foundation in support of its continued efforts.
