Goltens, Bactest Sign Distribution Agreement
Goltens Green Technologies will now assist shipowners in demonstrating that ballast water treatment systems installed on board ships comply with the regulatory standards
Goltens Green Technologies, independent ballast water treatment service provider, today announced that it has signed an exclusive global distribution agreement with U.K.-based Bactest Ltd. for the award-winning portable fast contamination testing product, Speedy Breedy.
Through this agreement, Goltens Green Technologies, with its range of experience in supporting shipowners in implementing ballast water treatment systems, will now also help shipowners in demonstrating that these systems meet the regulatory standards.
Using Speedy Breedy, ship’s crew can test ballast water on board for contamination in accordance with the D-2 performance standard for the discharge of ballast water, set out by the International Maritime Organization.
Bactest’s flagship product tests the treated ballast water for the presence of three bacteria set out in the D-2 standard – Vibrio cholerae, E. coli and enterococcus, after which the sample is pasteurizedso that it can be safely disposed of as regular waste.
“We have been looking for a product like Speedy Breedy for some time to complement our ballast water treatment business,” said Maarten Jeronimus, Vice President of Goltens Europe and Managing Director for Goltens Green Technologies in Netherlands. “With more than 22 stations in the Goltens network worldwide, this agreement has a global reach.”
