Communications and safety at sea specialist Ocean Signal has appointed FURUNO Italia S.R.L. as its new distributor for Italy.

Following confirmation of the new partnership, FURUNO is now able to market and supply the entire Ocean Signal range of products, which includes its SafeSea portfolio of GMDSS products and its innovative rescueME PLB1.

As global leaders in the development and distribution of a range of marine electronics, the Italian specialists will use its strong links in both the commercial shipping and leisure boating markets to strengthen Ocean Signal’s presence in the country.

The Ocean Signal portfolio of products display ground-breaking features to provide critical, tangible benefits to the user, ensuing they are suitable for a variety of applications in the marine sector.

Alan Wrigley, Managing Director of Ocean Signal, said: “We are very pleased to announce FURUNO as our new distributor as they will be able to support our products in all markets due to their experience, contacts and expertise throughout the maritime industry.

“We are keen to increase our market share in both the commercial and leisure sectors in Italy and we are confident that this can now be achieved.”

The Ocean Signal product range currently offered by FURUNO consists of the popular rescueME PLB1, which is 30% smaller than other personal locator beacons. It is ideal for the commercial market, as it can be carried easily and unobtrusively by workers on tug boats, patrol vessels and other workboats, as well as for a variety of leisure boaters.

Its well-established SafeSea portfolio offers highly reliable and easy-to-use GMDSS products, each with unique industry-leading features. The range of products, the V100 GMDSS hand-held radio, as well as the E100 and E100G EPIRBS and S100 SART, provides all essential handheld communication devices required in an emergency situation.

Managing Director Didier Bureau commented: “As Furuno France is already established as the distributors for Ocean Signal products, we are very happy to confirm the extension of this partnership in Italy which will further strengthen and build on the relationship between the companies. We recognise that the Ocean Signal range consists of user-friendly, reliable and cost-effective products which will benefit our customers and we look forward to adding the equipment to our portfolio in Italy.

“The emphasis on innovation and design is an ethos which fits in very well with the spirit here at FURUNO to continually strive to find the best solutions of value to the industry.”

As well as continuing to establish a global network of distributors, Ocean Signal has recently expanded the production space and research and development facilities at its UK headquarters to meet increased global demand. The company is now supplying its established products to more than 40 countries and is launching further new products this year to add to its growing portfolio.
