September 3, 2004

Bill Hayden PE, Vice President of Engineering for Davis & Co. Ltd., has been elected Chair of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers' (SNAME) Southeast Section effective September 1. Each region is represented on the SNAME Council and Executive Committee by three Vice Presidents.

"I'm looking forward to representing colleagues in my section and will take their issues and ideas to the SNAME leadership," Hayden says. "With our company's involvement serving many sectors of the commercial and recreational maritime community, we feel we have a good reading on the pulse of business. I'll also be asking my contacts how SNAME can be responsive to their needs and encouraging non-members to join."

Hayden is a graduate of the S.U.N.Y. Maritime College with a B.E. in Naval Architecture and a Professional Engineer licensed by the State of Florida. He is a former employee of the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters with over 11 years experience in development and application of regulatory and policy requirements. Hayden has extensive knowledge of the Coast Guard plan review process with particular expertise in Subchapter "T" passenger vessels and experience in the design, construction and operation of barges, bulk carriers, FRP vessels, casino boats and recreational boats. In addition, he is an NMMA "Standards Compliance Specialist," a technical qualification usually reserved for boat builders, and is "ABYC Standards Accredited."
