Braemar Engineering Tests DP Software Tool
(Press Release) Braemar Engineering said its new Second Failure Module dynamic positioning DP software has been installed on a client’s vessel.
Kyle Eddings, Manager DP and Offshore Projects at Braemar Engineering, told delegates at the IMCA Asian Dynamic Positioning Conference this week in Singapore that the first Second Failure Module is now undergoing Beta Testing.
The Second Failure Module is a software tool developed by Braemar Engineering that allows a more in-depth understanding of the Dynamic Positioning (DP) System. It enables crew members and operators to study second level failures and understand more fully the effects they will have on the power plant and DP capability, and mitigate those risks in advance.
Upon a single failure, the software will allow the crew to quickly identify how vulnerable their DP equipment is to a second failure, allowing a higher degree of certainty to the individual faced with making the costly decision of abandoning operations.
The software is also helpful for planning prolonged DP operations, where critical preventive maintenance requires a piece of equipment to be down for a period of time. Additionally the Second Failure Module acts as a highly valuable training tool, enabling DP and Engineering Staff to study the first and second failure effects on their equipment and learn how best to mitigate those risks.
Braemar Engineering’s Second Failure Module can be interfaced with any Alarm & Monitoring System for optimum functionality. Owners and operators can easily utilise this software to assist in accurately producing Vessel Specific Operating Procedures.
The Second Failure Module also works in conjunction with Braemar Engineering’s exclusive tool, WIRE. WIRE is an interactive Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) tool, which is maintained and updated as a vessel ages.
