TMS Expands Environmental Compliance Training

Total Marine Solutions “TMS” launched a new training program to address the growing need for comprehensive environmental compliance training in the maritime industry.  The “Culture of Compliance” training program has already been launched fleet wide by major international shipping companies.

“Compliance with maritime environmental regulations is one of the main obstacles facing our industry,” said TMS president Alexandra An agnostis-Irons.  “We developed this course to help our clients do more than just check off a training box, but to permeate the spirit of compliance and the importance of environmental compliance throughout their fleets.”

Non-compliance with environmental regulations continues to plague the maritime industry, despite the fact that costs and legal consequences of non-compliance are becoming more severe.   The ‘Culture of Compliance’ Training program addresses not only the existing regulations, but also best practices in compliance and record keeping. The two hour seminar is delivered in person, however training programs are expected to be available online in late 2015.

“So far client feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Caroline Medich, managing director at TMS, who spearheads the training program. “Our training goes beyond explaining the regulations to give on board, real life examples that help crew members understand what it is they are being asked to do.  We can customize each training session not only to the corporate culture, but also to the culture aboard one vessel or within a department.”

Total Marine Solutions offers environmental compliance solutions for a wide variety of vessels on the water, including yachts, commercial vessels, cruise ships, government vessels as well as off shore marine facilities. In addition to product solutions, TMS also offers environmental compliance training, in accordance with federal and international regulations.
