Salazar Issues Cape Wind Lease; Envisions Offshore Power Line
According to an Oct. 7 report from The Energy Daily Network, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar signed the first lease for a U.S. offshore wind farm—the Cape Wind project off the coast of Massachusetts. The signing of the 28-year lease for the 468 megawatt Cape Wind project ends an eight-year struggle by the project developer to get needed federal and state permits and overcome opposition from some environmental and homeowner groups on Cape Cod who objected to the erection of 130 towering turbines on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound.
