A 46-year-old man is receiving treatment in Oahu after being medevaced from Midway Atoll, Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
A Coast Guard airplane crew flew more than 1,300 miles from Oahu to Midway to medevac the injured crewmember after watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Command Center Honolulu received a request from the Chinese-flagged fishing vessel Kiafuhao.
The duty Coast Guard flight surgeon was briefed and recommended a medevac based on the patient’s condition. The Hercules crew launched from Air Station Barbers Point at 6 a.m. Saturday.
The Coast Guard partnered with a Disaster Medical Assistance Team from Honolulu who provided inflight care.
The patient was safely transferred to EMS at 7 p.m. for further transport to Queen’s Medical Center. He is reported to be in stable condition.
