At the WorldFest 2014 International Film Festival in Houston, RWE Dea won the platinum award in the documentary category with “The Breagh Story”. The film also won the silver award in the energy category at this year’s WorldMedia Festival held in Hamburg.

The documentary tells the story of one of RWE Dea’s largest projects – from the exploration of the Breagh gas discovery and the installation of the production platform, all the way through to first gas produced in October 2013. “Breagh was one of the most demanding projects ever undertaken by RWE Dea, both in terms of its timeline and because of the engineering challenges involved,” explained Rene Pawel, Senior Vice President Production Europe RWE Dea AG. “We are delighted that the documentary of the successful project has now been honoured on the international stage by these awards,” added Rene Pawel.

RWE Dea, as operator of Breagh, succeeded in bringing one of the largest natural gas fields under development in the southern British North Sea into production. Production commenced in October 2013, only two years after the project was approved by the British authorities. The reservoir holds estimated total reserves of 19.8 billion cubic metres of natural gas.

The documentary about Breagh was produced by Myriad Global Media. The WorldMediaFestival honours outstanding productions in corporate film, television, the web, web TV and print productions on an international scale. This year was the 47th WorldFest Houston International Film & Video Festival and the list of past winners includes names of top directors like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Ang Lee.
