South Korea's first lady Kwon Yang-sook has stressed the need to enhance the country's industrial competitiveness through innovation, according to a recent Korea Times report. Kwon made the point in a speech at a ceremony at the Hyundai shipyard to launch a crude oil carrier, the Universal Queen, the first of its kind made with a shipbuilding fund. The fund was introduced in 2000 when President Roh Moo-hyun was maritime affairs and fishery minister and helped to increase orders for the country’s shipbuilding industry, the report said.
